Sidney Moncrief was born on September 21, 1957, in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. He went to Hall STEAM Magnet High School. He later played basketball for his college team, the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. He is often known for his nicknames which are Sid the Squid, Sir Sid, and El Sid. After that, he started his professional basketball career as he was chosen in the NBA draft and played 11 seasons from 1979 to 1991.

He played in his college team ‘Razorbacks’, along with the prestigious players of the university and their coach Eddie Sutton. Their team became one of the premium college teams that represented America’s sports programs. When Sidney joined the team, his presence was magnificent and he helped his team to keep their winning streak alive.
He graduated from college and started his professional career in the NBA when he got selected in the 1979 draft. He was selected in the 5th overall draft and played for the Milwaukee Bucks in 1979. He made some amazing scores and beat the Utah Jazz in the final game of his rookie season. He helped his team to make the third-best score record of the season which was 60-22 in the 1980-1981 NBA season. His team also lost 7 games to Philadelphia.
He recorded his career-high 7 steals during a loss against the New Jersey Nets in 1982. He also scored a career-high 42 points while winning against the Houston Rockets. He showed impressive leadership as he made his team win against Larry Bird’s team Boston Celtics. They later defeated the Philadelphia team in the postseason game.
In 1983, he helped his team defeat the Denver Nuggets by scoring 25 points and won with a score of 139-122. He later made his first triple-double in a winning game with a score of 89-83 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. In 1984, he teamed up with Terry Cummings and Paul Pressey to make 76 points to win against the Detroit Pistons. After many successful games, they were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Semifinals by Philadelphia. He played for 48 minutes in 1986, winning against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. He won against the Philadelphia 76ers in a seven-game series but unfortunately couldn’t qualify for the Eastern Conference Semifinals and lost against the Boston Celtics.
In 1987, he helped his team win game six against the Boston Celtics with a great performance. But they lost the 7 game series. He was fined for being involved in the game altercations along with some other players. He skipped many games due to his knee and foot injuries but made 13 out of 13 free throw attempts and won against the Dallas Mavericks. He retired after the season for the first time.
He rested for a whole year and then rejoined the NBA playing one season with the Atlanta Hawks in 1991. Though the Hawks lost the 1991 series, he made a game 4 victory against the Detroit Pistons, who later won the series. His jersey with a no.4 on it was retired in 1990, but the Bucks dedicated it to him again in 2008, when he came to Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as a shooting coach for the Warriors.
After retiring he became a coach at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock for one year (1999-2000). In 2006, he became a head coach for the Fort Worth Flyers and later joined the NBA again in 2007, and became a shooting coach for Golden State Warriors. He also served as an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2011.
